Plants have the unique capacity of trapping kinetic energy that comes from the sunlight and convert it into the potential form found in foods. Man is dependent on the Sun for his existence but he cannot use this energy directly. He can only use the potential energy stored in foods which is basically plants in origin. Thus plants are connecting link between ourselves and the life giving Sun. Plants provide all basic needs of entire living world, thus we all are guests of plant kingdom. Without Plants world will be devoid of all forms of life. Applied Aspects of Plant Sciences will introduce you some of the basic values of plants, role of biotechnology in agriculture and biopharmaceuticals, modern techniques of production, microbes and their roles in agriculture, role of environment and climatic changes in plant production, sustainable agriculture and precision agriculture, plant diseases and their management, importance and methods of post-harvest technology.
This book is written for F.Y.B.Sc students as per National Education Policy (2020)-NEP2020. The matter is up-to-date and in very lucid style of writing. All illustrations are according to the recent developments in the field of plant sciences.
The Board of Studies in Botany of SPPU, Pune, has taken most forward step in introducing some of the most interested aspects of plant sciences having applied values in today’s most competitive world. This has happened for the first time in the history of Botany syllabi for F.Y.B.Sc. Students. That most of the topics included in this course are valued to develop interests among the botany lovers and those who are interested in developing their career in the plant sciences. All of the topics have been written in such a way that students will love the subject of Botany. The care has been taken to provide all the concerned questinarie as per norms of university at the end of every topic, to get prepared for the examination.
