Plants have the unique capacity of trapping kinetic energy that comes from the
sunlight and convert it into the potential form found in foods. Man is dependent on
the Sun for his existence but he cannot use this energy directly. He can only use
the potential energy stored in foods which is basically plants in origin. Thus plants
are connecting link between ourselves and the life giving Sun. Plants provide all
basic needs of entire living world, thus we all are guests of plant kingdom. Without
Plants world will be devoid of all forms of life. Applied Aspects of Plant Sciences will
introduce you some of the basic values of plants, role of biotechnology in agriculture
and biopharmaceuticals, modern techniques of production, microbes and their roles in
agriculture, role of environment and climatic changes in plant production, sustainable
agriculture and precision agriculture, plant diseases and their management, importance
and methods of post-harvest technology.
This book is written for F.Y.B.Sc students as per National Education Policy
(2020)-NEP2020. The matter is up-to-date and in very lucid style of writing. All
illustrations are according to the recent developments in the field of plant sciences.
The Board of Studies in Botany of SPPU, Pune, has taken most forward step
in introducing some of the most interested aspects of plant sciences having applied
values in today’s most competitive world. This has happened for the first time in the
history of Botany syllabi for F.Y.B.Sc. Students. That most of the topics included in
this course are valued to develop interests among the botany lovers and those who are
