Plant is one of the largest, complex and vital industry with most sequential processes and functions. These processes and functions take place in variety of plant structures from the seed stage-seedling stage upto the formation of plant body ie. from organs, systems and reproductive units. Plant physiology is actually concerned with functions, structures, processes and response of plants to different environmental regimes. Thus this course on plant physiology and metabolism is the study of phenomenon of plant life having structures and functions with extreme co-ordination forms the subject matter of book Plant Physiology and Metabolism.
This book is written for S.Y.B.Sc students as per new syllabus 2025 and NEP 2020 framework. We have tried to present the syllabus matter uptodate and illustrations have been made as per the need of the course matter, in most lucid style to understand all students.
This course book covers the topics that introduce scope and importance of Plant Physiology followed by plant water relations, Water absorption and its transport in the plant in upward direction. Plants need various inorganic elements as nutrients for growth and development during which water gets transpired. Some main growth regulators ideally necessary for full growth and reproductive development of the plant while nitrogen is key element in nutrition and how it is fixed, and mechanism of fixation has been elaborated. This terminates in causes flowering and variety of plant responses for completion upto reproductive stage are parts of the study.
