Microbiology involves the study of the fascinating world of microorganisms like Microbiology involves the study of the fascinating world of microorganisms like bacteria (eubacteria, archaebacteria), viruses (virion, prions), algae, fungi, protozoa, mycoplasma etc. While microorganisms are often viewed negatively due to their involvement in many plants and animal diseases, they are more importantly useful in uncountable beneficial processes such as industrial fermentation, antibiotic production and as vehicles for cloning in higher organisms. They benefit our environment in many ways.
Microbiology is a broad and multifaceted discipline that encompasses many specialized areas. The knowledge of microbiology in various areas has expanded a lot in recent years, as a result, this subject has been included in the syllabi of many universities at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
It gives enormous satisfaction to the authors to bring out this book written as per the revised syllabus prescribed by the North Maharashtra University as per U.G.C. guidelines. Authors have made a sincere attempt to write this book in a simple and student-friendly manner. Unit-wise, writing of the book with clarity, sufficient but good examples, good figures and presentation of exercise at the end of each unit are the salient features of the book.
